new york vs. the world: the nike human race 10k.
tonight i ran the inagural nike human race 10k. there were over 10,000 runners (plus the million more racing around the world...) and it was a whole lot of fun. the final results won't be in until september 3rd, but besides hitting the bottle neck back-up just shy of mile six, I think I placed pretty well.
there was a guy who seemed to be keeping pace with me for most of the run and when we hit the back-up, he took the time to compliment my pace. when we escaped onto the home stretch, he raced ahead of me into the stadium (...finishing in the stadium in front of all of those people was an amazing feeling). just shy of a hundred meters to the finish, I saw him ahead, running a bit slower... when I caught up, he said, "okay, now we can finish this thing together. c'mon!" and we sprinted across the finish line in sync. it was one of those awesome running moments...
maybe I will run in a different city next year...
