norway in a nutshell.

sometimes being here is like being in a fairy tale... the snow is story-book... reminds me of the lion, the witch and the wardrobe, when narnia is stuck in eternal winter.

hardangerjøkulen glacier in the background... in finse... the highest point on the bergen railway (altitude 1222 metres).

i was amazed, as we travelled through the coutryside, that people were actually able to live in certain areas. norwegians are defintely no joke... it takes a lot to live in this kind of environment.

on the way to flåm.

sognefjorden.

photos can't do it justice... the fjord walls are so steep... looming high on all sides... it's quiet and cold and amazing.

i went up to the deck of the boat (from flåm to gudvangen, fjord style) after the sun had set... i was the only one up there (marcus, the tour guide, said that in the warmer season there are usually about 400 people making the trip... yesterday we were 5)... and the feeling of nature around me was so powerful it was almost frightening. i am sure the fjords are beautiful when it's warm and green, but there was something special about being one of such a small group in such a severe natural arena.
