dear lovelies,

i would generally put this on my stoked on it blog, but i was so emotionally moved, that i am going to go ahead and post it here, where things are more personal. last night i went to see the Alvin Ailey company perform at BAM. it has been a do-before-i-die goal to see them live, but for the past several years, the seasons go by with that left unachieved. part of the reason i never end up going is financial, so i decided to jump on the chance to see them at BAM, where tickets are a little cheaper.

i cannot describe what happened last night... but the performance was one of the most beautiful things i have ever seen, and the choreography was definitely the most beautiful i have ever seen. The program last night consisted of Mary Lou's Mass (1971), Dancing Spirit (2009), and of course, Revelations (1960).

though Revelations is the favourite of many, Mary Lou's Mass, which hasn't been seen since 1973, moved me the most. (Ailey called it “a soul dance — a series of ecstatic dances”)... the music was ridiculously amazing... and the choreography... just... !!!

basically, there is no way i can describe anything relating to last night with words, so... check out the links, and if you can, try to see them in the flesh. your life will be brighter for it.

xoxo
