Yesterday, as I lined up to run the Women's Mini 10k, I was overcome with emotion in a way that I never have been during a race. I started in the dark blues, the very first corral, number 430. (I have only started in the first corral one other time, otherwise I am in the second or third depending on the size/competitiveness of the race). As I stood among the fastest women New York has to offer, we were joined by my (and everyone's I think!) running idol, Paula Radcliffe... and to top it off, Kara Goucher (who I love even more than Paula, and who always looks so darn cute!) sounded the start horn. The first part of the course lead up central park west, and running along the avenue, central park to my right, buildings to my left, lead vehicle in view in front of me, alongside (well, almost) Paula Radcliffe, with more of a cheering crowd then I have ever seen at a race, I felt amazing. And I continued to feel amazing through the entire race... it was the most beautiful race I have ever run and for the first time in a long time I thought, 'I am a runner!' I finished with a hard sprint, neck in neck with bib number 470, who I beat by one second.
Finish: 287 out of 5189, 95 of the 1375 in my age group.
